Washington Post: Why do we carry so much around? | 43 Folders
I’ve actually been thinking about this recently, in part because of my delightful new RadTech Omni laptop case—in fact, after tricking it out with a guitar strap rather than the included crappy strap, I’ve been using it for the last couple of days as my only bag. (Other than a disposable bag for lunch.)
This actually works pretty well, because nine days out of ten, I don’t need most of the weird stuff in my backpack.
What’s in my Omni:
- iBook
- Small square moleskine
- Cross Radiance fountain pen
- iPod USB cable
- Cell phone (Which I never use, thank god.)
What’s in my pockets:
- Wallet (With what you’d expect in inside)
- A small Hokusai wave card case from Oberon Design for my bus pass and BART tickets.
- A Rhodia flip-top notebook (tearable pages, unlike the Moleskine) in an Oberon slipcover.
- An inhaler.
- The One Ring.
What’s attached to my pants with (two) carabiners:
- iPod
- Keys
- Watch
- LED flashlight
- Knife
What I stash wherever, often in my coat pocket:
- My Nissan briefcase thermos
What’s in the larger bag I’m not currently carrying, and which I occasionally miss:
- Book
- Painkillers
- Cards
- Sundries (chapstick, tic-tacs, etc.)
- Napkins. Many, many napkins.
