Misc.

Still no word on my mysterious numbness, which symptom, fortunately, has passed, and my others are relatively quiet as well. In other news, LibraryThing -finally- now has ratings (hopefully these will be factored into suggestions soon)…

Also, I may be getting a slightly-delayed birthday video iPod.

Light

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

I have to say, I wasn’t as impressed by ??Light?? as I believe some people were. It seemed like a lot of high-end flourishes set up around an approximately empty structure, free of all but a smidgen of content. I mean it was clever, and amusing, and not a pain to read, but I was disappointed; it was like unwrapping an empty box. Leaving me wishing I’d been reading…I dunno. ??2001??. Brin’s “Uplift” books. ??The Fortunate Fall??. Something.

Oooh, nifty status page plugin

Friday, October 28th, 2005

I think Merlin at 43Folders is right that “everyone needs a status page;”:http://feeds.feedburner.com/43Folders?m=390 even more so now that he’s pointed us towards a “nifty WP plugin”:http://eightface.com/code/wp-mystatus/ that simplifies the process of updating one.

Is it wrong that I badly want this to either import or output “FOAF”:http://www.foaf-project.org/ data? Yes, yes it is.

You’ll find my status at the top of the Gramarye “about page”:http://kukkurovaca.textdriven.com/gramarye/about

Fujitsu concept keyboards redefine ergonomics - Engadget - www.engadget.com

Friday, October 28th, 2005

Oooh, more keyboard prototype porn! If the superflat one is actually arbitrarily configurable, I want one. I’m inclined to think you could make typing on one more ergonomic than typing on a physical keyboard where you have to actually exert force and all — but you’d have to lay it out a little differently (bigger key targets, for one thing), and it would take a lot of habituations. And, as the comments point out, the second and third prototypes are obviously the same.

Boing Boing: Small press publisher on AAP’s anti-Google suit

“Richard Nash, the *publisher* of the excellent small press *publisher* Soft Skull Press, has *published*…”

Someone clearly stole Cory Doctorow’s thesaurus.
