Telescopes Kill Sattelites!

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Oh, interesting. The absolutely brilliant and horribly depressing Cold Allies by Patricia Anthony (which I suspect may be considered eerily prophetic in about ten years) made use of sat-killing lasers, although those were in the form factor of self-portable howitzers rather than astronomy installations.

Boing Boing: British farmer supplies gallows to totalitarian governments

Thursday, May 11th, 2006

I’m sorry…

The execution equipment he says he sells ranges from single gallows, at about £12,000 each, to “Multi-hanging Execution Systems” mounted on lorry trailers, costing about £100,000.

You’ve got to be shitting me. Do these gallows feature automated noose-tying and a dock to charge your fucking iPod? Do they output 1080p video? I call on MAKE magazine to do an issue on DIY execution equipment. Better yet, let’s start an open-source gallows project…
