Two in two weeks, with a fairly streamlined production process. This is a good step.

Why would we be the top hit for “girly laptop case”...but only in the UK?

The Tentacle Copes a Jism

Friday, February 24th, 2006

Gilford went down today, and one of the aftereffects was that FTM had some database problems. Not sure exactly what happened, and not sure exactly how I fixed it, but I appear to have done so.

This is good, because my last backup was a while ago. I’ll endeavor to do them more regularly, and encourage you guys to do them as well, if you like.

Note: If you don’t know what jism-coping is, see this entry at UGP.

FTM discussion/collaboration

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

Please solicit submit your ideas for how to best discuss, collaborate, etc. on and/or about FTM—both for stuff like the site roadmap, and also for more mundane stuff like how to go about blowing up a planet.

Roadmap

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

[Stickied for the day—do we have an expiration feature? It’s probably not difficult to write.]

So I noticed we’re getting a lot of hits possibly not related to our usual banter and interneting. (Actually can someone—Nick—explain how to read the stats page?) I figure it may be time for some kind of executive pow wow about page styling, organization and some state of the FTM stuff.

List Possible topics (contribute please):

  • Design
    • Color scheme
    • Pictures
    • Rotating header graphics
  • Usability
    • Too eay to navigate away from page
    • Site could use an (improved?) About page,
    • Cleaner front page
    • Cleaner category structure
  • Style
    • Consistent methods of presenting links
    • Guidelines for the status fields
  • Theory
    • A Mission Statement!
  • Users
    • Do we want to keep open user registration?
    • Do we plan to expand the blogger pool?
  • Best practices
    • We should have a central location for planning and to-dos vis-a-vis the site, and a standing “roadmap” page, whether on the site itself or somewhere else. (E.g., Backpack, 43things, etc.)

The Morning News - I’m Your Biggest Fan, by Christopher Monks

This sucks. But on an unrelated note, I like the idea of handwritten blogging…so long as there’s also text-searchability and cut-and-pastability. Hmm.

Curry and dills and they put it in pills,
That’s what a little tumeric’s good for.
