Possum and Merino. Seriously on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

Possum, eh?

Some realizations, in order:

  1. That is the best label I have ever seen, and then some.
  2. I hadn’t realized they hunted the possums. I had sort of figured they farmed them, like angora rabbits.
  3. Yes, I know how stupid that sounds. But doesn’t “Possum Farmer” sound like a cooler title than “Possum Hunter”?
  4. How can anything as lame as a possum be an environmental threat? It’s a slow-moving marsupial whose best trick is faking death. I would think that, other than the tree sloth, there would be no creature on earth to which the possum could be a threat.

Yeah, great: a more environmentally friendly way to use disposable paper coffee cups.

clap supplies on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Okay, I know from the tags that in this case, “clap” refers to clapotis (a popular project from Knitty), but if you didn’t know that, “clap supplies” would be a horrible name for almost anything.

Oh, hey. This is the pattern to that knitted nautilus (sp?) we were admiring.

Habu?

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

We had a staff development day at work, and one of the workshops was on knitting. I went, not because I needed the basic level of instruction (though I was pleasantly humbled to find a totallly foreign (to me) method of casting on being taught), but because they were giving away needles and yarn (aluminum needles I can’t use, but can give to Renee/Rosie, and 300 yards of godawful acrylic yarn that I doubtless will find some use for—my friend Josh has been hinting he’d like a scarf, and this may be it) and they’re starting a knitting group.

As an added bonus, the instructor gave me her knitpicks catalog, let me mess about with her circular needles (I find them creepy, somehow), and pointed me in the direction of something called Habu….who sell yarn that is composed of a blend of silk and motherfucking stainless steel. How great is that? but it has to be a royal bitch to work with.

Knitting Bags - Jordana Paige the knitter’s purse and messenger bag for a new generation

This is pretty nifty, but I don’t think it’s large enough. My Lantern Moon 13’s are better than 14” long…
